Research Prospects At JUIT

Since I am from CSE dept so I will be able to comment on the ongoing research in the CSE & IT dept. Some of the areas are: Multistage interconnection networks(in which I am involved),network on chips, voice response system,Ant colony optimization, image processing, compilers(not yet started), particle swarm optimization(I am again the part of last two). Apart from this more research is going on which students can be part of. Now I would like to suggest “how to start research”(I suppose many would like to know that)

1) Research is something which requires learning of some advance courses like Software Engineering, Computer Networks, Aritificial Intelligence,Theory of Computation, Data Mining, Cryptography, Distributed and parallel systems ,high performance system architecture to name a few.So its virtually not possible until you have a penchant for these and you learn them in your sophomore years.

2)Once you have Identified your area of interest, its time to seek some help from the faculty. It’s always advantageous to consult seniors first.believe me when I say this, ” Faculties are more than interested in bright and enthusiastic students working for them”.Now unlike US it will not fetch you extra credits or count to your final year project, yet it may fetch you an all important research paper.

3) Reseach is something which requires perfection. If there is something in this world which is perfect, its definitely a reseacrh paper. So,obviously requires loads of reviews and iterations until it is finally ready.Meanwhile, it is a regular process to consult tens of related research material available with IEEE, ACM or other conferences.

4) Faculty will help you towards selection of conference. All in all it’s a 6 month process on an average starting from selection of topic to publishing of the paper.

Any queries, feel free to ask me,though I am not an expert.

IBM Workshop

IBM organized a 2 day workshop on its technologies and tools: Eclipse, Websphere and DB2. 75 students attended the workshop.

Positive response from the students should now encourage administration to organize more such avtivities.

HCL in Campus

HCL is in the campus for placements. Lets see how well it turns out for remaining unplaced students(4th Yr). Our classes has been called off due to HCL’s written tes :)

That’s the latest buzz right now.

Cheers.

Results Out(even sem-2008)

Hi guyz.

This post comes after a long pause. Asuvidha ke liye humein khed nahin! hai :)

Anywayz.

Results are out. first things first. People are more or less relieved after the anouncement of results. 4th year people have (obviously) got good grades and GPAs(due to their projects – and farewell gifts from teachers;) Third year people won’t mind their grades much as most of them are already ‘placed’ by now. But for those whove have not yet landed in some company, GPAs are very crucial. Also those who are serious for GRE, CAT, GATE etc, grades will matter . Coming on to 2nd year people, they have to sit for placement next year(hopefully!) so they must be looking to improve their GPAs further in the coming odd semester. And last but not the least, first year junta would consider their GPA as a base for coming years.

Now, my preferred part. Criticism :)

Declaration of these results has once again raised fingers against the JUIT-ACADEMIC-SYSTEM. Few questions faced by it are:

Are these results 100% authentic?

Aren’t they partial or biased?

Is everyone satisfied with the results?(i.e. has everyone got marks upto his/her expectations)

While we leave first two questions for the college administration itself(offcourse they are not questionable in this context!). Answer to the third question is that more or less, the aam junta(read studens) are not satisfied with the results.

“Arrey yaar! ismein to ‘A’ aana tha, sala ‘C’ lag gaya..”

“Oyee.. ismein D kaise lagga.. atleast B aana tha..”

“Arrey mera to grade hi interchange kar diya usne..”

“Maine to project khud se banaya tha.. phir bhi C lagaya hai.. hadd hai !!”

These are some of the common accusations and reactions of students. Offcourse this is not the first time that it has happened. Students will never be content enough by any sort of result. But here in some cases it seems crystal clear that there is definitely some sort of negligence by college administration. They seem too casual to take the future of students seriously.

A point to defend such allegations is that it is not possible for the administration to please each and every student. In a large system, it is possible that some slip-ups could have occured.

But the crux of the matter is – It does not matter to those people sitting in the luxury of their cabins, that here it is the future of a student which is on stake. They are too lazy and careless to make sure that every student gets what he deserves. This university is still in the growing stage, it still has to go a long way before making a solid ‘NAME’ in education sector; and if it thinks it can afford to make mistakes like these, then ‘God! help you reach your goal’.

Holi 08

Mid Sem Break is here. Though (officially!) vacations are from day after tommorow but almost 70% of the college is already vacated. 3rd year people are in Noida for their placements. 134(a record!) got selected in Infosys.

Rest is peace. This post is just the informative one. NO grudges/mockery/accolades/ et cetera this time :)

Be colourful. Happy Holi.

Ah, ‘Politics’ this time

Last post was about ‘partiality’(which got deleted by mistake). Anywayz this time it is politics’ turn to teach something.

Toh janaab, huaa yun ki ..

JIIT’s annual fest is going to happen from 7th to 9th March. So, notices were put for the selections – to select the students who’ll go to Noida to perform. Students turned up in large numbers for auditions.

Lets start with the example of Literary Club’s auditions. Their events were debates, extempore, creative writing etc. In the auditions a topic was given to contestants(both hindi & english separately). They were then asked to speak a small debate-kinda’-thing for 2-3 mins. Based on this few students were selected(6 to be precise). They were assured(specially the ones from 2nd year) that they are definitely going to JIIT-Noida. 2-3 days later when the news came, it was found(to the shock of each and every participant) that not a single person among them is selected.

NOT A SINGLE STUDENT WAS SELECTED !! Then why the hell did you take auditions?? Why the hell did you make fake promises??

Later, when students enquired about this ‘mishap’(aka disaster aka tragedy aka cheating!!) with respective responsible persons, their answers were -

1. ‘Yaar, we have to see a lot many things.’(Yaa, how many things you are seeing – we very well know that !!)
2. ‘Yaar mere under kuch nahi hai.’(toh kiske under hai??)
3. ‘Registrar sir ne naam kaat diye.’(OK – nobody can argue this fact in JUIT!!)
4. Blah Blah Blahh .. (and a thousand more reasons)(and rumours)

Let me ask a question from one such so-called-responsible-representative(I dont want to name him!!). He had said – ‘I did not find any participant capable enough to be selected’. Respected Sir, if you dont mind, can I please ask you a humble question?? Just tell me the topic given to the contestants?? – You cannot. Because you were not there at the auditions. Because you did not have time for these ‘miniscule auditions’. Because power is a dangerous things, it corrupts everyone.

Now, let us move towards our very own Technical Club. ’Who is going to the Noida  fest!’ – this was decided way before the auditions. Auditions were just a formality to them – thought they were cancelled later. But students did not get a chance to prove themselves. And I guess that qualifies to be called ‘unfair!!’

Moving on to Robotics. 2 of the best participants were not allowed to go(they won last time in the university by a huge margin!) because they did not have any ‘jack’(aka jugaad).

Politics and partiality are a part of life. Every now and then you have to face this harsh reality. And our university is so great that it is teaching us a valuable lesson for life. Long live you ’so-called-leaders’. You truly are a symbol of ‘netajis and mantris’ at the university level.

Snowtym !!

Last week the university saw its first ‘proper wala’ snowfall. A half-day was declared and buses were sent to shoghi(a town nearby) with students bursting with joy. If chill was high, then higher was the enthusiasm, masti and mood of people(students including faculty and other staff).
